The N117 turbines are designed specifically for wind farms with little wind, increasing the potential for wind energy. The turbines will be manufactured in the USA.
The N117 outdoes other wind turbines by up to 20%. The production of wind turbines will begin in July 2012 in Arkansas.
Nordex USA, Inc. will debut its new wind turbine N117/2400 for the U.S. market at WINDPOWER in Anaheim, California, from 22 to 25 May 2011. The N117 is designed specifically for wind farms with light winds, which …
“Siemens is expanding its commitment to environmentally-friendly energy technology in China with this new wind turbine production facility in Shanghai,” declared Wolfgang Dehen, CEO of the Siemens Energy Sector and member of the managing board of Siemens AG on the occasion of the laying of the cornerstone in Shanghai on May 22, 2009. “China could soon become the largest wind energy market in the world and with our new production facility in Shanghai we are establishing an excellent starting position for meeting the growing demand of this exciting market. In addition, we are also …
Progress in the development of commercially-viable direct drive wind turbines took a significant step forward last week, with the official launch by Siemens Energy of its SWT-3.0-101 wind turbine. This turbine has a faceplate rating of 3 MW, has no gearbox and uses a permanent magnet …
Wind News Siemens intent to supply Great Lakes offshore wind farms
Lake Erie Alternative Power is basing its wind development proposals on Siemens’ 3.6MW offshore turbine
Wind turbine manufacturer Siemens has signed a Letter of Intent to supply turbines for offshore wind projects developed by the Lake Erie Alternative Power (LEAP) group.
The group is aiming to develop up to 5,040 megawatts of offshore wind farms around the Great Lakes.
The $13 billion development would come in six phases, with 1,400 wind turbines in the form of Siemens’ 3.6MW …
Siemens receives first wind turbine order in Manitoba, Canada
VANCOUVER, March 25 /CNW/ – Siemens Energy has been awarded an order for 60 2.3-MW SWT-2.3-101 wind turbine to be installed near the town of Morris, Manitoba, Canada. The scope for the St. Joseph wind farm includes the supply, technical field assistance for erection and commissioning of the 60 units, as well as two years of service and maintenance. Installation is expected to begin in September 2010 and be completed by the end of 2010. The purchaser is Pattern Energy, an independent, fully integrated energy company that …
Siemens AG, Europe’s largest engineering company, will add at least 2,000 jobs at its renewable-energy division this year, as the business expands to meet rising demand for clean energy.
Siemens has invested “hundreds of millions” of euros in wind energy since it entered the industry with an acquisition in 2004, Rene Umlauft, chief executive officer of the unit, said in a telephone interview yesterday. The unit employed 800 people in 2004 and plans to add to its current workforce of more than 7,000, he said.

Hutchinson’s Siemens Wind Energy plant has been awarded an order from Minnesota Power for 35 more 3-megawatt direct drive wind turbines for its Bison 2 wind energy center in central North Dakota.
The Bison 2 wind farm will have 105 MW of installed capacity, to come online in late 2012. The project represents an investment of about $157 million. Deliveries of the wind turbines will commence in August 2012, according to a report in Wind Power Monthly.
The order is the third contract award for Siemens direct drive wind turbines in the U.S. since the model was introduced …
… Canyon Wind Farm from Germany’s Siemens Power Generation.
The purchase agreement calls for 141 turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 megawatts. Total capacity, of 324 megawatts, can power 100,000 homes, adjusted to account for the variability of wind.
Wind turbines are in high demand in the United States and in Europe, as utilities and developers proceed with ambitious plans to increase supplies of renewable energy.
Turbine shortages have pushed up prices and increased construction timelines. But, PGE said it’s on time and on budget to finish the remaining two …
… to be completed by mid-2011.
And finally, Siemens Energy has received an order for 43 of its 2.3 MW SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines for the Greenwich project near Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada.
The order adds to five others totalling nearly 600 MW received in recent months for projects in Canada, as well as 30 turbines for the 108 MW Riffgat wind farm in the North Sea.

… projected $450 million-plus investment.
In another direct-drive technology announcement, Siemens introduced a new 2.3MW gearless wind turbine that utilizes a compact permanent-magnet generator to maximize power production at project sites with low to moderate wind speeds. The SWT-2.3-113, the second generation of the company’s gearless machines, also features Siemens B55 Quantum rotor blades, intended to augment efficiency and performance with a more lightweight and sound-reducing design. A prototype was installed in the Netherlands in March, and later this year Siemens plans to launch its 6MW direct-drive offshore turbine.
