Wind News Siemens intent to supply Great Lakes offshore wind farms
Lake Erie Alternative Power is basing its wind development proposals on Siemens’ 3.6MW offshore turbine
Wind turbine manufacturer Siemens has signed a Letter of Intent to supply turbines for offshore wind projects developed by the Lake Erie Alternative Power (LEAP) group.
The group is aiming to develop up to 5,040 megawatts of offshore wind farms around the Great Lakes.
The $13 billion development would come in six phases, with 1,400 wind turbines in the form of …
… bet that many of them will be talking about what is expected to become the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
The three developers of the London Array announced on Tuesday that the first of 177 foundations has now been installed at the London Array Offshore Wind Farm in the Thames Estuary.
The press release — put out by DONG Energy, E.ON and Masdar — noted each foundation will consist of a tubular steel monopile, driven up to 50 metres into the seabed, and a large yellow transition piece, which is fixed over the top of the monopile to provide the base for the wind turbine.
The monopiles are up to 65 metres long and …
… Energy yesterday confirmed that it has tendered a bid to the Danish Energy Agency for a 400 MW offshore wind farm near the island of Anholt.
If the project gets the go ahead, the Anholt offshore wind farm could be generating its first energy in 2012 and reach full capacity in 2013, generating enough power for 400,000 homes – around 4% of Denmark’s total power consumption.
DONG’s investment is expected to be of the order of DKK 10 million and would be the company’s third major offshore wind development following the 209 MW Horns Rev 2 in the Danish sector of the North Sea and another in the UK. The company is also developing two other offshore …

Do It Yourself Energy kit: Wind And Solar Power Handbook Guide: Why Do We Need To Use Solar Power?
There are truly a considerable amount of energy sources. Endless supply of energy can come from water, wind, and the heat of the sun. The technology for retrieving power from them is not even new. Nevertheless with power producers targeted on non-renewable energy sources, the promise of solar and wind power haven’t essentially been exploited.

Extracting, transporting and refining oil creates significant environmental risks. Oil spills and ballast cleanouts in routine offloading operations endanger birds and marine life. And although rare, oil tanker spillslike the Exxon Valdez, which released 10.8 million gallons of oilcan foul our beaches and put wildlife at severe risk.
